Will I have to have a C-section because of placenta previa?

Many pregnant women with placenta previa do end up having a C-section.  A C-section is considered a safe option because of the potential complications (excessive bleeding, shock, and death) that placenta previa can pose. If you have marginal placenta previa, where the placenta is not blocking the cervix, then you may be able to try delivering vaginally. Talk to your doctor about the risks of this type of delivery and if this is an option for you.

    With a complete or a partial placenta previa a c-birth is usually performed to decrease the risk of bleeding. In situations with a complete placenta previa it is impossible to deliver the baby vaginally without rupturing the placenta, and thus the need for a c-birth.
