Is a breech baby considered a labor complication?
-
Dr. Louise Sivak answered:A breech baby is not a labor complication. Most babies that are in the breech position have been in that position throughout most of the mother's pregnancy. Version or turning the baby may be attempted by the Obstetrician prior to the onset of labor if the mother's anatomy and the baby's size allow it. Some Obstetricians are comfortable delivering a breech baby vaginally if both mother and baby are healthy and anatomic considerations allow. Others may recommend delivering the breech infant by C-section.
