Long-term use of steroids, such as those contained in Symbicort, can lead to bone loss (a condition known as osteoporosis). Your doctor will prescribe a bone density test to see if you have bone loss. This risk is higher if osteoporosis (bone loss) runs in your family. Your chance of getting bone loss is also increased if you do the following:

    • smoke cigarettes
    • do not exercise
    • do not get enough vitamin D in your diet
    • do not get enough calcium in your diet
