    Dr. Dede Bonner answered:

Do not automatically assume that a dementia diagnosis is Alzheimer’s disease. This is such a well-known household term nowadays that many people - including doctors - are biased toward making this diagnosis.

But, there are a surprising number of other dementias, including:
    -Mild cognitive impairment (MCI)
    -Vascular dementia
    -Mixed dementia
    -Dementia with Lewy bodies
    -Parkinson’s disease
-Frontotemporal dementia (Pick’s disease, a rare front temporal neurodegenerative -disease)Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD)
    -Normal-pressure hydrocephalus
    -Huntington’s disease
    -Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome
