What should I avoid while taking Sutent?

Stacy Wiegman answered:When you're taking Sutent, use an effective method of birth control to make sure you don't get pregnant. Getting pregnant while taking Sutent could cause major harm to your unborn baby. In addition, you should avoid taking St. John's Wort and Sutent together, as this could cause negative reactions. Avoid all medications, vitamins and supplements that your doctor tells you will interfere with the effectiveness of the drug. You should avoid taking part in contact sports or activities in which you could get bruised or cut, since you may bleed and bruise more easily.

You also want to avoid medications that accelerate or inhibit liver function. Some antifungal medications and HIV medications increase the blood levels of sutent potientally making it more toxic. Avoid grapefruit juice as well as it increases the serum concentration of sutent too. Avoid excessive alcohol use and certain antiseizure medications as well as they can reduce the blood levels of sutent making it less effective. If in doubt, have your doctor run a multi-check for drug interactions with sutent. Hope this helps.
