    Celeste Cooper answered:
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) symptoms are often confused with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Certainly people with IBS can also have SIBO, and it seems may be at a higher risk. Therefore, SIBO should be considered in fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue patients with IBS.

Absolutely. SIBO is very common in ME/CFS/fibromyalgia, as is irritable bowel syndrome. Interestingly, a major cause of the small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is the underactive thyroid function often seen in CFS and fibromyalgia. Thyroid is a major contributor to healthy bowel movement; called peristalsis, it keeps the small intestine clear of infections.
