    The chronic pain caused by arthritis may lead to depression. Depression is more likely to occur if arthritis pain is so severe that it causes you to be dependent on others or if it prevents you from taking part in activities with others. If you suspect that you have depression, talk to your doctor about treatment. Keep in mind that some antidepressants can also help with pain relief.
