Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, replacing missing teeth will make it easier to eat and speak better than you could without teeth—things that people often take for granted.

Women's dentures are no different than men's dentures. However, you should know that everyone's mouth is unique. Some people may be able to be fitted and placed with dentures on the same day. Most people will need to wait for their mouth to heal. Bottom line: If you are interested in dentures, talk to your dentist.

Because all dentures are custom-made to fit each individual's mouth,  all dentures are different. There really is no difference between dentures for men and dentures for women, other than the size difference that may be apparent based on each individual's mouth. Both women and men may be eligible for all types of dentures; it's a decision that's based on the individual, not on the sex of the individual.

Dentures are custom made for each patient, to specifically adapt to one person's mouth. While the appearance of some teeth may appear slightly more delicate, or feminine, than other denture teeth, this does not translate to male or female dentures. In fact, if dentures are placed, unlabelled, in a row, it is unlikely dentists, dental technicians, or patients could guess all correctly as belonging to male or female patients.

    Dr. Saul Miller answered:

Each patient's mouth is unique, just as is the size, shape and appearance of the face. The size of the ridges, facial structures, and previous appearance of teeth or appearance of remaining natural teeth dictate the size and shape of replacement teeth on the denture.

A petite woman probably would not have the same size and shape teeth as a taller larger man, or even a woman of larger proportions. A patient's age is another important factor. Additional considerations include tooth shade and quality and overall appearance of the tooth in general.

Your dentist will suggest appropriate denture teeth, with the final decision made in consultation with the patient.

    Dr. Stephen Black answered:

The shape of teeth on a denture typically follow the shape of the patients face: soft, rounded features would have soft rounded teeth or hard, angular features would have bold, square teeth. It doesn't necessarily follow that there are "women's dentures" that are appropriate to only women or that "men's dentures" are appropriate to only men. An individuals features are unique and so are dentures.

    Dr. John Kaminski answered:

There is no difference in the materials used in fabricating men’s and women’s dentures. The main difference is the size of the teeth used, the shape of the teeth used and possibly the position of the teeth. Women's teeth tend to have softer angles while a man's teeth have sharper angles implying a man is stronger and wears his teeth down more than a women’s.
