AndroGel, a prescription testosterone gel, poses some risks for its users. It can:

    • Aggravate existing sleep apnea or enlarged prostate symptoms
    • Raise the risk of prostate cancer
    • Cause water and sodium retention, which can cause severe problems for people with liver, kidney or heart disease
    • Cause serious liver disorders, blood clots and heart failure
    • Cause swollen feet, ankles or other body parts
    • Increase male breast size with long term use
    • Reduce sperm counts with large doses

AndroGel can also harm women and children who come into contact with the gel or with a man's skin where it has been applied.
