    The most common type of hair loss, or alopecia, is called androgenetic alopecia. Other terms for this include “male pattern balding” or “female pattern balding.” This type of hair loss is related to hormones in the body like androgens and testosterone. It is unknown why some people develop alopecia but it can happen to anyone. It is generally accepted that a family background strongly influences development of alopecia in both men and women; however, other factors may also be important. More research must be done to figure out what may contribute to development of alopecia
