Some studies suggest that certain supplements may benefit sexual function. For instance, one study found that taking supplements of niacin (vitamin B3) may help men with erectile dysfunction achieve erections. Asian ginseng also may help men with erectile dysfunction achieve and sustain erections. Other research suggests that supplements of vitamin E and selenium may help sperm motility and semen quality in infertile men.

Asian ginseng may enhance women's sex lives too. In a study of menopausal women, those who took supplements of Asian ginseng were more likely to experience sexual arousal than those who took placebos (sugar pills containing no active ingredients).

Do not take any supplements without consulting your doctor first. Some supplements marketed as sexual enhancement products may contain ingredients that could interact with other medications, producing potentially serious side effects.

There are several found in a quality multivitamin that contribute to sexual arousal. The amino acid L-arginine converts to nitric oxide, which is key to arousal. Pycnogenol, a combination of antioxidants; omega-3 fatty acids; and vitamins C and E either increase arousal outright or through improving blood flow, thereby improving sexual response.
