Viral Infections

Unlike bacterial infections, viruses do not respond to antibiotics. Only a very few agents are known to affect viruses in the human body. Interferon may help with many viruses. Some specific antivirals - like Tamiflu - can help with flu viruses only. Some illnesses can be caused either by bacteria or viruses, so your doctor may wish to test before prescribing antibiotics.
