Most people with ulcers cannot point to their family tree as a source of their ulcers. However, recurring canker sores (aphthous ulcers) can run in families. Some conditions that cause ulcers can be hereditary, such as Crohn's disease. Some people seem to be more susceptible to peptic ulcers because of genetic factors like blood type--those with group O blood appear to be more likely to get duodenal ulcers.
