answer
Javelin throwers have to be the most flexible athletes in track and field, from head to toe, to avoid major injuries. They must have great range of motion in their hips, groin, and shoulders to be successful. Javelin throwers do traditional static stretches everyday along with dynamic flexibility and hurdle walking drills. There is a series of about fifteen upper-body stretches that javelin throwers do with and without a javelin in their hands. The more flexible the javelin thrower, the more range of motion can be created resulting in a longer pull on the javelin. Upper body javelin stretches include stretching the arms and shoulders against a wall or netting like a wall chest stretch, using a javelin or surgical tubing to simulate the throwing motion, and various static and dynamic stretches holding the javelin with one or two hands.
