I’m not even sure diabetics should use diabetic products. I guess it depends on the product. If we’re talking sweets, most “diabetic” sweets are probably worse than a small serving of the real thing, as sugar is often replaced by a black-magic mix of chemicals that we can only begin to understand, and that often cause bloating, pain, and diarrhea.
Now if you’re talking about switching from regular soda to diet soda, I’m all for that. But you should really try water; it’s pretty good, actually.
If you’re talking about using the pink packets, blue packets, or yellow packets instead of sugar in your coffee, then I’m all for that too. But black coffee would be even healthier.
If you’re talking about diabetic socks, no, you don’t need those.
If you’re talking about a blood glucose monitor, yeah, I think that’s a great idea. You probably don’t need to test as often as those of us with diabetes, but testing some will help you understand what’s going on in your body, and will let you keep tabs on the progression of the problem.
Actually, none of us really need diabetic products because healthy choices for diabetics are the same as healthy choices for borderlines, which are the same as healthy choices for “normal” people.
Eating not too high carbs or too high fat. Oh, and not eating too much, either. Avoiding drinking any calories. Getting a good variety of meats, fruits, grains, cheeses, and nuts. Moving a little more rather than a little less. These are the things that are good for all of us: diabetic, borderline diabetic, and all the rest of the population.
