Industrial waste poisoning can affect children in a few different ways. Some studies have shown that young children and babies are more susceptible to certain chemicals than their parents. For example, if exposed to vinyl chloride, a child's growth and development may be affected. Children also absorb chemicals more quickly through their skin than adults and have higher metabolism rates. In many instances, children do not respond in the same way as adults do when they come in contact with toxic chemicals. Caring for children with signs of industrial waste poisoning may be different than caring for adults.
