There is no cure for mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). However, early diagnosis and treatment may lead to a better response to the corticosteroids most often used to manage MCTD. Some people have such mild cases of MCTD that medication is only needed with flare ups, while others may need to take medication daily. Regardless, having a diagnosis in hand allows you to manage the symptoms through drugs, alternative therapies, and lifestyle choices. It is also important to find ways - such as joining a support group - to help cope with the stresses of a chronic, incurable disease.
