The most common symptom of a sciatic hernia is chronic pelvic pain, pain in the upper thigh, and on one side of the buttock. In some cases, pain up and down the thigh will develop if the sciatic nerve is compressed. As the hernia grows larger, it will eventually cause a swelling or bulge at the back of one thigh, just under the buttock.
