    Research suggests that curcumin may be useful in the treatment of many conditions, as it is thought to have anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antioxidant properties. Supplements may be used for inflammatory medical conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, bursitis, ulcers, scabies and chronic inflammation. This supplement also is used in the treatment of upset stomach, heartburn, viral infection, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), cancer and AIDS. Studies are being conducted on curcumin's effectiveness in preventing gallstones and blood clots. Traditional uses for curcumin in Asian medicine include: the treatment of acne, psoriasis, dermatitis and diaper rash. You should be aware that herbs and supplements, such as curcumin, are not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and should always be used with caution and under a doctor's supervision.
