This substance can be taken by incorporating cod liver oil into your diet or by taking supplements that contain it. Cod liver oil may also reduce high blood pressure and high cholesterol and treat kidney disease in people with type 2 diabetes. This supplement works by diminishing your blood's tendency to clot and reducing swelling and pain. The Food and Drug administration has not yet determined this supplement's safety and effectiveness at treating or preventing any disease. Cod liver oil is also known as cod oil, fish liver oil, fish oil, halibut liver oil, liver oil, N-3 fatty acids, omega 3, omega-3, omega-3 fatty acids, and polyunsaturated fatty acids.
