When will I leave the hospital after an angioplasty and stenting?

answer
How long you will remain in the hospital after angioplasty and stenting depends on your medical situation. If you were suffering a heart attack and underwent emergency angioplasty to stop the heart attack, your hospital stay may be several days to allow your medical care team to observe your heart rhythm and watch for complications.

If your doctor identified blockages in your arteries and you were treated with angioplasty to reduce symptoms or prevent a heart attack, stroke, or other serious medical problem, your recovery from angioplasty and stenting will probably be brief. Discharge from the hospital for “elective” angioplasty is usually the day after the procedure and, in some cases, may even be the same day. Most patients are able to return to work within a few days to a week after a procedure.
