Foods are powerful, not only with the ability it has to nourish us, but also how it makes us feel emotionally. Specific foods and food situations have the ability to trigger the pleasure/reward pathway in our brain. This is a normal animal instinct that at one time was an evolutionary advantage. The pleasure of eating drove our ancestors to seek food out daily. In today’s fast food world it is not such an advantage. It is however, part of our genetic code. All foods stimulate the brains reward center, and some more than others. For example, simple carbs such as sugar and other sweets are particularly pleasure stimulating.
