What does the term fellow mean?

  • A licensed physician who's completed both medical school (4 years) and specialty training (3-7 years) and is eligible for board certification in that specialty and is taking subspecialty training (for example, in cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric cardiology) is called a “fellow” during training in their subspecialty.
