You may have promised your mate that your wedding band would never come off your finger, but you get special, temporary dispensation on that promise when you're having a hospital stay. And no, it's not because it may get lost, or one of the less stellar hospital staffers may spirit off with it while you're dozing under heavy sedation. It's because most kinds of jewelry are germ traps, and wearing it can increase your chances of getting an infection in the hospital.
Secondly, your wedding ring can become a bullet if you accidentally take it into an MRI tube (this depend on what metal it's made of, but this is a really bad way to find out).
