It could pay to ask the hospital staffers how you would be marked if you elected DNR status. A bizarre occurrence a few years ago highlights this. You may recall seeing the yellow rubber wristbands that some people wore to show their support for cancer patients. You know, the ones from the Lance Armstrong Foundation? Well, patients began showing up in hospitals wearing these wristbands, which unfortunately look exactly like the ones some hospitals give patients who don't want to be resuscitated. This caused alarm and confusion, but luckily nobody was sent to the hereafter because of a screw up. The best part? The rubber wristlets from the Lance Armstrong Foundation are called "Live Strong" bands. That's the peak of irony or the perfect motto of a do-not-resuscitate philosophy.
