Occasional heartburn is very common. Frequent heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are less common. Some experts estimate that over 60 million people in the United States get heartburn at least once a month and that over 15 million have heartburn every day. Daily heartburn could be a symptom of GERD.
