Allergy in general has been linked to fibromyalgia. The most important thing to consider regarding food allergies is to identify those that make our symptoms worse. Once that is done, it is important to eliminate those foods from our diet. In some cases, your doctor may refer you to an allergy specialist to help you identify them.

There are theories as to why food allergies or intolerances occur, but most agree that leaky gut syndrome (LGS) is associated, and LGS has been associated with many immune conditions and FM. In this case, symptoms can vary widely (you can look up questions regarding LGS here on Sharecare).

Discuss your concerns with your physician, because this is one thing we can learn to control.

Somepeople are allergic or sensitive to certain foods and food ingredients, including gluten (found in wheat) and lactose (found in dairy products). Side effects can include an upset stomach, fatigue or depression. Although no evidence exists about whether these foods help or hurt fibromyalgia symptoms, it's important for patients to know whether they have allergies or sensitivities because they could be making their fibro symptoms worse.
