A broken tooth can be very painful, but there are a few things you can do to manage the symptoms prior to your appointment at the dentist’s office. Rinse your mouth with warm water. If there is bleeding, apply pressure to the area with a piece of gauze for 10 minutes. You can also use a tea bag instead of gauze. Put an ice pack on your cheek near the area that hurts and take an over-the-counter pain reliever. If the dentist can’t see you right away, cover the part of the tooth that’s still in your mouth with temporary dental cement, which can be found in most drugstores.
