Periungual warts appear around the toenails and fingernails. They are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), and they can be a reoccurring problem. Nail biting can cause the small tears through which the virus enters the body. Periungual warts resemble cauliflower and may appear coarse, peeling, or worn down.
