Jumping rope is a superior way to break up the monotony of cardio. Let's face it, sometime 30 minutes on the treadmill is not very stimulating. In order to see continued results, I highly recommend jumping rope. Depending on your height and weight, studies have shown that you can burn 11-20 calories a minute moderately jumping rope. If you are more intense, you can jump rope for circut training that can burn up to 600 calories in 30 minutes! Not only is jumping rope an effective calorie burner, but it develops agility, stamina, and is a great way to engage in H.I.I.T. training (High Intensity Interval Training). Furthermore, you can purhcase a quality jump rope for under $20, making it an economical addition to your fitness regime.
Over the years, I have seen incredible results with my clients by incorporating jump rope into their training sessions. When appropriate, I have my clients do 20-30 seconds of jump rope immediately following a resistance exercise to ensure optimal caloric expenditure during my clients workouts. The results can't be denied and while the clients hate me for the tough, sweaty workout, they love the results.
