Imagine billions of nerve fibers traveling through that hole. Now imagine them branching off at different levels of the spine and going to your heart, lungs, kidneys, intestines, liver, gall bladder, adrenals, thyroid and other glands, and to your hundreds of muscles and bones. That’s what the illustration above depicts. That is how your body communicates. Without nerve communication your body would stop working properly. If your spinal bones (vertebrae) are slightly out of place you have a subluxation. A subluxation could interfere with the function of millions and billions of nerves going from your brain down your spine and to all parts of the body. A subluxation can affect your resistance to disease; your ability to digest food and to eliminate waste; to see, hear, walk and talk; and even your ability to concentrate, process information, read and think. That’s why there are case reports of chiropractic care returning people back to health from nearly any disease. Chiropractic releases blockages that prevent your body from working better – so your natural healing ability can function at its peak.

Howard S. Smith, Pain Medicine, answeredChiropractic care is a very common alternative therapy for chronic pain and may be helpful for treating back pain, chronic cervicogenic or musculoskeletal headaches, neck pain, and pain from musculoskeletal injuries. This therapy may be effective for fibromyalgia, as it helps improve pain levels and increase cervical and lumbar ranges of motion.
As the largest alternative medical profession, chiropractic is based on the principle that the body is a self-healing organism. To reduce pain and increase healing, the doctor of chiropractic uses spinal adjustments with the goal of increasing the mobility between spinal vertebrae, which have become restricted, locked, or slightly out of proper position. Chiropractors do this by using hand adjustments with gentle pressure or stretching, multiple gentle movements of one area or specific high-velocity thrusts. Adjustments are said to help return the bones to a more normal position or motion, helping to relieve pain and reduce ill health.
If you try chiropractic, you might have quick relief immediately after manipulation. On the other hand, it may take weeks to receive a benefit from this treatment. In some situations, it may not work at all. Still, whether or not you find relief from chiropractic manipulation, it is important to continue with the rest of the complete holistic program, including your doctor’s prescribed medications, if needed.

Debra Fulghum Bruce PhD, Healthcare, answeredChiropractic is successfully used to treat back pain, chronic headaches, neck pain, and pain from musculoskeletal injuries. This holistic hands-on care has also been shown to be effective for fibromyalgia, as it helps improve pain levels and increase cervical and lumbar ranges of motion.
