One of the great advantages of modern cataract surgery is the rapid return by patients to their daily work routine and home duties. It is important, however, to give yourself time to heal. During the first few days, most eye doctors ask their patients to take it easy and refrain from bending over, picking up heavy objects, and swimming. Avoid any circumstance where the eye might be hit or injured in any way, and use good common sense. More robust activities may be resumed after a week or two with the approval of your ophthalmologist. Shooting rifles with significant recoil should be avoided for the first two to four weeks or so, depending on the wishes of your ophthalmologist, but shooting a pistol should be OK after a week or so.
