How should I treat a shin bruise?

answer
The shin is vulnerable and sensitive to contusions from blows or bumps because of the absence of muscular padding. A localized collection of blood forms rapidly on the shin. It causes intense pain. Ice, elevation, compression and pain medication help to decrease symptoms. Maintaining compression in the area of the shin is important. In some cases blood may need to be drained from the shin. Treatment includes stretching within pain limitations. Wearing a donut pad helps with protection. All injuries in this area are potentially serious and should not go unattended.
