An essential tremor affects the movement of the hands, head, and voice. It is more noticeable when the limbs are stretched out and improves when the muscles are at rest. You may experience a nodding or shaking movement in your head. Symptoms begin gradually in adulthood and can become more severe with age. You may notice more tremors if you are stressed, tired, or drink too much caffeine.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital answeredIn people with essential tremor, the most frequent symptom is "action tremor", tremor that occurs when the affected body part is used to perform activities such as writing, pouring, or eating. Essential tremor is usually progressive, and in severe cases people with tremor become very dependent on others to help them carry out their normal activities.Helpful? 1 person found this helpful.
