National Academy of Sports Medicine answeredAt the end of your off-season program, take one to two weeks as "active recovery" (light activity) before the pre-season begins. The pre-season typically begins with a fitness assessment which will help identify any deficits in your performance such as strength, power, stabilization, speed, etc. As sport-specific training demands increase, the training program volume or intensity will decrease accordingly. The main goals of the pre-season training program are to continue to condition the athlete, identify any deficits in performance measures, and prepare the athlete for the season.
