Emend works in conjunction with other medications to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy. Emend must be taken one hour in advance to prevent these symptoms. Emend is an antiemetic medication. These medications stop a chemical in the brain, called neurokinin, from triggering nausea. If you are already experiencing nausea or vomiting, it is too late for Emend to work properly.
