In addition, a patient must be examined within the context and richness of his or her life in all it's dimensions, including relationships, spirituality, work, stressors, and ways of coping with stress. An understanding of all these factors helps the physician to better understand the patient and as a result, to plan, together with the patient, as a team, the most effective treatment(s).
As I see it, one of the most important goals of diagnosis and treatment is to help a person remove the obstacles that stand in the way of his or her being able to lead a rich, fulfilling life.
