How can I find out if lab tests are performed at a doctor’s office?
Some physician offices do have the capacity to do lab tests. Large medical groups, especially, may have a fully equipped and staffed clinical lab. Most physicians, however, will send their clinical lab work to outside labs that are typically better equipped, better staffed, fully accredited and independent of the physician’s control. There has always been some question about the quality of physician “in-office” labs.
What is a general practitioner?
General practitioners are medical doctors who diagnose and treat most types of health conditions or diseases and do not specialize in any particular area of medicine. They provide basic medical service for people of all age groups and both sexes.
General practitioners usually complete a 1- to 2-year residency following medical school. There is no board certification for general practitioners.

How can I determine if other doctors will be on call with my doctor?
Doctors in solo practice cannot be on call 24/7/365 so, typically, they will have an arrangement with other doctors to “cover” for their patients when they are not available. Most doctors practice in large or small groups these days so, of course, they cover for each other.
