Family doctors are physicians who have been trained in the medical specialty of Family Practice. Their training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness in both children and adults, including obstetrics. Many hospitals, however, do not grant obstetrical privileges (delivering babies) to Family Practitioners as they have sufficient Ob-Gyns to deliver that care.
