What sports have the greatest likelihood of injury?
Basketball typically has the most emergency room visits. Ice hockey commonly has the most head injuries. Football has double the injuries seen in soccer and other contact sports. (This answer provided for NATA by the California University of Pennsylvania Athletic Training Education Program.)
What injuries can I get if I overtrain for a marathon?
UCLA Health answered
“In the months leading up to a marathon, we often see people coming in with overuse injuries because they are ramping up their mileage too quickly,” says David R. McAllister, MD, chief of the Sports Medicine Service in the UCLA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Overuse injuries can include patellofemoral pain (runner’s knee), medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints), and bone-stress reactions or stress fractures.
What is considered a common sports injury?
Common sport injuries usually happen to body parts like the knee, shoulder and ankle, and tend to be sprains and strains. Fortunately, most of these injuries can be treated non-operatively. However, in certain cases, if the injury is more severe, they will need surgical attention.
