Family doctors are physicians who have been trained in the medical specialty of Family Practice. Their training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness in both children and adults, including obstetrics. Many hospitals, however, do not grant obstetrical privileges (delivering babies) to Family Practitioners as they have sufficient Ob-Gyns to deliver that care.

- What kind of training do family doctors have?
How can I determine if a doctor will be focused on wellness and prevention?
Doctors are increasingly concerned about promoting information on wellness and prevention. However, many doctors are not well-trained in these fields and many doctors may not have the time or interest to provide this information. You, as a patient, however, have every right to expect and demand it.
How can I find out what hospital a doctor uses?
Stuart Linder, MD, Plastic/reconstructive Surgery, answeredYou may find out what hospital your physician uses by going online on their website. If there is any question, call the hospital and confirm with the medical staff office. Most doctors will list on their website hospital affiliations.
